Welcome to Summer! Coming soon to downtown San Francisco is a festival unlike any other. The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival boasts over 75 performances that span throughout the entire summer from May 1st to the October 30th Halloween Bash.

Whatever your interests are, you’ll have a great time at any of the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival events. The six main categories throughout the summer festival are Weekend Sessions, Let’s Go Salsa @ Jessie Square, Poetic Tuesdays, Thursday Lunchtime Concerts, Children’s Garden Series, and Special Projects.

The mission of the festival is to “present classical, world, and jazz music, contemporary and traditional dance, theater, children’s and family programs, and cultural events reflecting the rich cultures and creativity of the region.”

All of the venues and performances will be outdoors with no tickets or designated seating required. Admission to the festival is FREE thanks to donations and contributions from sponsors and supporters. Most of the venue seating will be open lawn seating, so plan to bring a blanket or low lawn chair if you wish.

This truly rich and unique area of the city, stretching from 2nd Street to 5th Street and Market Street to Harrison Street, and tucked between SOMA and South Beach, is a dynamic urban cultural center and community. Restoration took part in the Yerba Buena Neighborhood in 1966 to renew the neighborhood. Today, you can find “more than two dozen galleries and museums, recreational and entertainment facilities, activities for children and families, housing, hotels, shopping, and fine dining.”

The Yerba Buena tourism website creatively describes the neighborhood as “a San Francisco neighborhood of artists, patrons, urbanistas, fashionistas, movie lovers, night clubbers, shop keepers, score keepers, entrepreneurs, restauranteurs, worker bees, retirees, technologists and mixologists.”

Make sure to visit the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival website for a calendar of events, sign up for the mailing list, and donate! You can also follow the event on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

There’s plenty ahead to look forward to this summer! Make the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival a big part of it and come celebrate this unique place in the cultural landscape of San Francisco.
